FOLIOLEDGER FAQ About FolioLedger What Is FolioLedger? FolioLedger is a free, not-for-profit community resource for collectors of books published by The Folio Society. It helps users catalogue, organise, explore and share their collections. FolioLedger is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or officially connected to The Folio Society or LibraryThing. Is FolioLedger Free To Use? Yes. FolioLedger is intended to remain free for the collecting community. Voluntary contributions may occasionally be requested to help cover hosting, domain and operating costs. The Catalogue What Is Included In The Catalogue? The Catalogue contains Folio Society titles and associated bibliographic information, including title and author, publication information, editions and printings, series information, subjects and genres, images and other reference material. How Can I Browse The Catalogue? You can browse the complete Catalogue and use the available search, filtering and sorting tools to find titles, authors, series or subject genres, then add them to Your Library or Wishlist. What Are Subject/Genre Categories? Subject/Genre categories help organise titles by topic and classification. They may include BISAC-based classifications and other descriptive genre information. Can I Browse By Author Or Series? Yes. FolioLedger includes dedicated author and series pages, allowing you to explore related books and view collection information in context. Accounts And Profiles Why Should I Create An Account? An account allows you to create and manage your own collection, Wishlist and Marketplace activity. Registered users can also participate in community features such as Chat and image contributions. How Do I Access My Account? Your account and profile settings are available through your personal profile page. The Settings area allows you to manage profile details, privacy preferences and other account options. Can I Create A Public Profile? Yes. Your profile can display selected information about your collection and activity. Visibility options are controlled through your account settings. My Library What Is My Library? My Library is your personal record of the Folio Society books you own or wish to track. You can add Catalogue titles to your Library and maintain information about your copies. What Information Can I Record? Depending on the title and your account features, you may record edition or printing, condition, notes, acquisition details, price paid, and whether a copy is available for sale. Can I Import My Library? CSV import helps you add collection information in bulk. Where an imported record requires confirmation or does not confidently match a Catalogue title, it may be placed into a pending review area for you to resolve. Can I Export My Library? Yes. My Library can be exported as a PDF catalogue, allowing you to keep or share a formatted record of your collection. Wishlist What Is The Wishlist? The Wishlist is a place to record Folio Society titles you would like to acquire. Wishlist entries help you keep track of desired books while browsing the Catalogue and Marketplace. Images And Shelfies What Is The Images Section? The Images section contains photographs and other images associated with Catalogue listings. Images help collectors compare editions, bindings, illustrations and physical details. Do Uploaded Catalogue Images Require Approval? Images uploaded to Catalogue listings may be subject to administrative review before being made generally available. What Are Shelfies? Shelfies are personal photographs that users can upload to showcase their shelves, collections or books. Do Shelfies Require Administrative Approval? No. Shelfies are uploaded directly by the user and do not require administrative approval. How Many Shelfies Can I Upload? Each user may have a maximum of eight Shelfies. Once the limit is reached, you must delete an existing image before uploading another. Can I Enlarge Or Delete A Shelfie? Yes. Clicking a Shelfie opens an expanded full-size view, and users can delete their own Shelfies at any time. Can Other People See My Shelfies? You control whether your Shelfies appear on your public profile through the Show Shelfies publicly setting in your profile settings. Who Owns Uploaded Images? Users retain ownership of their original images. By uploading an image, users grant FolioLedger permission to host and display it as necessary to operate the service. You should only upload images you own or have permission to use. Marketplace What Is The Marketplace? The Marketplace allows registered users to list books from their personal collections that they may wish to sell or trade. Other users can view listings, contact sellers through FolioLedger Chat and discuss possible arrangements. Does FolioLedger Process Sales Or Payments? No. FolioLedger does not process payments, arrange shipping or complete purchases or trades. Any transaction must be arranged directly between users outside the website. What Does Mark As Sold Mean? Marking a book as sold records the parties' indicated intention at that time. It does not create a binding contract or guarantee that a sale, trade or transfer will take place. Is FolioLedger Responsible For Marketplace Transactions? FolioLedger is not a party to Marketplace arrangements and accepts no responsibility for book condition or authenticity, listing accuracy, payment or non-payment, shipping or delivery, lost or damaged items, delays or disputes, or either party deciding not to proceed. Users should conduct their own due diligence and use the Marketplace at their own risk. What Are Approved Resellers? Some users may be designated as Approved Resellers following a brief internal review suggesting that they are a legitimate business or second-hand bookseller. This status is informational only and is not an endorsement, guarantee, warranty or recommendation. What Are My Marketplace Responsibilities? Users must only list books they own or are legally entitled to sell or trade, ensure listings and Chat communications are accurate and not misleading, conduct final arrangements lawfully and respectfully, and arrange payment, shipping or transfer outside FolioLedger. FolioLedger may remove listings or restrict Marketplace access where necessary. Chat And Offers What Is The Chat Function? Chat allows users to communicate about Marketplace listings, including questions about condition, price, availability, sale or trade arrangements. Can I Send An Offer? Where enabled, users can submit an Offer to a seller through the Marketplace conversation. What Happens When An Offer Is Received? The recipient can view the Offer in the conversation and may accept, decline or otherwise handle it. Offer activity appears in the conversation preview and can generate a notification. What Happens After An Offer Is Handled? Once an Offer is accepted, the listing is marked as sold and allocated to the user who made the Offer. The buyer and seller can then arrange the transaction directly between themselves outside the website. Are Offers Binding? No. Offers and sold markers are indications of interest within FolioLedger. They do not process payment or create a binding agreement. Any final arrangement must take place outside the website. Contributions And Data Can Users Contribute Information? Yes. FolioLedger is designed as a collaborative community resource. Users may contribute, edit or refine information where those features are available. Who Owns The Catalogue Data? FolioLedger does not claim ownership of underlying factual bibliographic information obtained from publishers' public records, Folio 75: A Bibliography of The Folio Society 1947–2022 or other public sources. The site operator retains rights in original written descriptions, categorisation, selection and arrangement of data, PDF templates, design, branding and code. Can I Copy Or Scrape FolioLedger Data? Automated scraping, crawling, data mining, bulk extraction and systematic downloading are prohibited unless expressly authorised in writing or through a documented public API. Personal, non-commercial use of individual records is permitted with clear credit to FolioLedger and, where practicable, the relevant contributors. Privacy And Visibility What Information Can Be Visible Publicly? Public visibility depends on your profile settings and the features you choose to share. For example, Shelfies can be displayed publicly only when the relevant setting is enabled. Can I Control What I Share? Where privacy controls are available, you can manage whether selected profile information, collection details or Shelfies are visible to other users. Accuracy And Liability Is All Catalogue Information Guaranteed To Be Accurate? No. FolioLedger makes reasonable efforts to maintain useful information but cannot guarantee that all factual data, user contributions or uploaded images are complete, accurate or current. Is User Content Verified? User contributions and uploaded images may not be independently verified.
