Lives of the Founding Fathers of the USA
Alexander Hamilton
By Ron Chernow · 2008
Back to CatalogueThis set of modern biographies treats five principal figures of the American founding: Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams. The volumes follow their paths from colonial life through revolution, constitution-making, and the first partisan contests of the republic - diplomacy, war, finance, and the presidency among the shared fields. Each book is a full life by a different historian rather than a single comparative essay. Typical matter includes independence, the Federalist experiment, and the rival ideas of government those men embodied. It is a biographical library of the early United States, not one monograph.
