Life, the Universe and Everything

Synopsis

In this third Hitchhiker novel, Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect, after a spell of exile, are drawn into a scheme to stop the people of the planet Krikkit from destroying all other life. The quiet, cricket-loving Krikkiters, once sealed away, seek the pieces of a key that will free their battle robots. Slartibartfast recruits the travellers; Marvin, Zaphod, and Trillian reappear; and the chase moves among prehistoric Earth, Lord's cricket ground, and other unlikely sites. The book is comic science fiction built on a quest for scattered artefacts. It continues the series' running jokes about bureaucracy and the meaning of everything, without being a standalone origin story.
