This anthology gathers legends of the Holy Grail rather than a single author's Arthurian novel. Typical pieces follow the vessel's appearance at Arthur's court, the wounded Fisher King and the Waste Land, and the quests of Perceval, Galahad, and Bors as they ride toward a vision that may heal or refuse them. Material is drawn from medieval romance and later retellings: castles, chapels, questions unasked, and tests of chastity and knightly worth. There is no continuous modern plot and no single narrator. The book is a sampler of Grail legend, not a history of the Crusades and not a complete Malory.
