This novel follows the opening of a remote island park stocked with dinosaurs cloned by the InGen corporation from amber-preserved DNA. John Hammond brings paleontologists Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler, the mathematician Ian Malcolm, a lawyer, and Hammond's two grandchildren to Isla Nublar to endorse the attraction. A systems failure, hastened by an employee's theft of embryos, drops the electric fences. The visitors must move through jungle, labs, and a visitor center as tyrannosaurs and raptors hunt and the park's control of breeding proves false. The book is a techno-thriller about biotechnology and containment, not a treatise on paleontology.
