This set collects four of Daphne du Maurier's novels set in Cornwall: Jamaica Inn, Rebecca, Frenchman's Creek, and My Cousin Rachel. Isolated houses, coasts, and inns are the usual ground. A young woman enters a household or marriage that she only partly understands; smuggling, a first wife's shadow, a royalist pirate, or a cousin's ambiguous mourning supply the pressure. Each book is a self-contained romance of danger and mistrust rather than a series with the same heroine. The volume is a regional grouping of her Cornish fiction, not her short stories or later novels set elsewhere.
