This volume is both a descriptive bibliography and a short history of a London fine-edition publisher from 1947 to 1996. Paul W. Nash lists each title with author, introducer, illustrator, type, printer, and binding; essays and reminiscences, including work by Roderick Cave, treat design, production, and the firm's working habits. Illustrations show covers, pages, and artists' work. The book is a commemorative reference, not an anthology of the literature the firm reprinted. Its purpose is to document fifty years of choices about what to publish and how to make the books.
