Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream
By Hunter S. Thompson · 2022
Back to CataloguePublished in 1971, this narrative sends the journalist Raoul Duke and his attorney Dr Gonzo to Las Vegas on a magazine assignment, first to cover a motorcycle race and then a district attorneys' narcotics conference. They travel with a trunk of drugs, wreck hotel rooms, and treat the Strip as a laboratory for what Duke calls the American Dream. The book mixes reportage, hallucination, and comic set pieces about cars, casinos, and official anti-drug culture. It is a first-person account of a failed assignment that becomes a tour of excess in the desert resort.
