Synopsis

On the desert planet Arrakis, the Emperor transfers control of the spice-producing world from House Harkonnen to House Atreides. Duke Leto, his concubine Jessica, and their son Paul arrive to hold a fortress among sand, worms, and the native Fremen, while the Harkonnens and imperial interests prepare to take the planet back. Spice is the key to space navigation and political power. Paul, trained in noble politics and in his mother's Bene Gesserit discipline, is drawn into Fremen prophecy and guerrilla war. First published in 1965, the novel is a planetary epic of ecology, religion, and dynastic revenge.
