This 1958 James Bond novel sends the British agent to Jamaica after the disappearance of the Secret Service station chief John Strangways and his secretary. Bond works with the CIA's Felix Leiter and a local fisherman and traces the case to Crab Key, an island run by Dr Julius No, a Chinese-German scientist interfering with American rocket tests from a hidden installation. The beachcomber Honeychile Rider is drawn into the pursuit. The plot is a tropical espionage thriller: infiltration of a private island, captivity, and a struggle against a host who treats people as material for experiment.
