Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and a Scanner Darkly

By Philip K. Dick · 2017

Back to Catalogue
Synopsis

This volume pairs two novels. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? follows Rick Deckard, a bounty hunter in a depopulated, dust-choked San Francisco, as he retires escaped androids and doubts the tests that separate them from humans, while real animals are scarce status objects. A Scanner Darkly follows Bob Arctor, an undercover narcotics officer in Orange County who lives among users of Substance D and is assigned to watch himself, as the drug and the surveillance split his identity. Both books treat impersonation and eroded personhood. They are separate science-fiction novels, not a single continuous story.
