This volume gathers the four Sherlock Holmes novels. A Study in Scarlet introduces Holmes and Watson and follows a Utah revenge into a London poisoning. The Sign of Four sends them after a stolen treasure and an Andaman islander on the Thames. The Hound of the Baskervilles takes Watson to Dartmoor to guard Sir Henry against a legendary beast. The Valley of Fear pairs a country-house murder with a flashback to a Pennsylvania secret society. Across all four, Holmes reads rooms, cigars, and footprints while Watson narrates. The book is the long Holmes fiction only, not the short-story collections.

Bound in green-brown cloth decorated as the first series (Short Stories). Issued in two variant black four-volume slipcases titled in gold. The set was advertised as the ‘Complete Novels’, but the slipcase manufacturer used the blocking from the ‘Complete Stories’ instead, and this error was allowed to stand; however, some copies were made up using the correct title. The correct title was used on the slipcases used for the 1996 second printing.
