Captain James Cook: The Journals 1768–1779
1768-1779
By Captain James Cook · 2018
Back to CatalogueThis edition presents Cook's own journals of three Pacific voyages between 1768 and 1779. The first, in Endeavour, takes in the Tahiti transit of Venus, the circumnavigation of New Zealand, and the east coast of Australia. The second pushes into high southern latitudes and among further Pacific islands. The third seeks a northern passage, reaches Hawaii and the northwest American coast, and ends with Cook's death at Kealakekua. Daily entries record navigation, landings, trade, conflict, and natural history. The book is a working sea journal, not a later biography.
