Witch Week

By Diana Wynne Jones · 2024

Synopsis

This novel is set at Larwood House, a boarding school in an England where witchcraft is a capital crime and witch-hunts are ordinary business. A note claiming that someone in class 6B is a witch starts an inquiry by the staff and panic among children who may in fact have magic. Pupils including Charles Morgan and Nan Pilgrim hide abilities, shift blame, and test the school's rules while a world with a different history begins to show through. An enchanter from a parallel order of things is drawn into the crisis. The book is a children's fantasy of persecution and hidden power, not a history of witch trials.
