This Blandings Castle novel sends Frederick, Lord Ickenham, known as Uncle Fred, to Shropshire when the Empress of Blandings is under threat and several engagements are in a mess. At the castle he impersonates a brain specialist, rearranges lovers, and outmaneuvers Lady Constance and the Duke of Dunstable while Lord Emsworth wants only peace with his pig. A Church Lads' camp in the park and a private detective add to the traffic. Pongo Twistleton is dragged along as usual. The book is a country-house farce of imposture and livestock, not a study of rural religion.
