Synopsis

In a future of psychic espionage and half-life after death, Glen Runciter runs a prudence organization that blocks telepaths for corporate clients. He leads a team, including the inertials technician Joe Chip, to the moon to protect a client; a blast kills or seems to kill members of the group. Back on Earth, objects and money regress toward earlier forms, messages from Runciter appear on walls and in ads, and a spray product named Ubik is offered as the only stay against decay. The novel follows Chip and the survivors as they try to tell who is dead, who is dreaming, and who is feeding on their remaining life. It is a science-fiction puzzle of entropy and afterlife commerce.
