Thus Spoke Zarathustra
A Book for Everyone and Nobody
By Friedrich Nietzsche · 2012
Back to CatalogueFirst issued in parts from 1883 to 1885, this philosophical narrative follows Zarathustra, a prophet who comes down from a mountain after years of solitude to teach in towns, on islands, and among disciples. He proclaims that God is dead, that humankind must be overcome toward the figure he calls the overman, and that the highest yes to life is the thought of eternal recurrence. Discourses, songs, and parables address the last man, the spirit of gravity, and the will to power. The book mixes sermon, poem, and satire rather than systematic argument. It is a prophetic work of philosophy, not a biography of the historical Zoroaster and not a novel of plot.
