This set brings together three of Austen's novels of courtship, money, and judgment among the English gentry. Sense and Sensibility follows the Dashwood sisters Elinor and Marianne after they are turned out of Norland and must live on a confined income in Devonshire. Pride and Prejudice follows Elizabeth Bennet, her crowded Hertfordshire household, and her dealings with Mr Darcy, Mr Bingley, and the officer Wickham. Emma follows Emma Woodhouse in Highbury as she arranges other people's matches and misreads her own position. Each book is a comedy of manners whose action turns on marriage settlements, visits, and the slow correction of a young woman's understanding.
