The Voyages of Lemuel Gulliver to Lilliput and Brobdingnag
By Jonathan Swift · 1948
Back to CatalogueFirst published in 1726 as the opening half of Gulliver's Travels, this abridgement follows the surgeon Lemuel Gulliver to two islands only. Wrecked on Lilliput, he becomes a giant among a court of tiny politicians, is drawn into a war with Blefuscu over the breaking of eggs, and falls from favor. A second voyage strands him in Brobdingnag, where he is a pocket curiosity for a farmer, a queen, and a king who finds European government and weapons contemptible. The book is a satirical travel narrative of scale and power, without the later Houyhnhnm voyage.
