Selections from the Writings Of

By John Bunyan, Agnes Beaumont · 1978

Synopsis

This volume selects autobiographical and pastoral writings by John Bunyan and Agnes Beaumont on Nonconformist life under the Restoration. Bunyan's pages cover his conversion, the gathering of the Bedford congregation, his arrest for preaching without licence, and his imprisonment, together with a sermon on damnation. Beaumont's own relation tells how riding behind Bunyan to a meeting, then her father's sudden death, brought her under suspicion and into a local inquiry. A short continuation by Charles Doe closes Bunyan's life. The book is a collection of first-person Puritan testimony, not a single courtroom novel.
