By Ursula K. le Guin · 2022

Synopsis

First published in 1971, this Earthsea novel follows Tenar, taken as a child to become high priestess of the Nameless Ones in the desert Kargad lands. Renamed Arha, she rules a labyrinth of underground tombs until the wizard Ged enters seeking a broken ring. Their encounter tests her loyalty to the dark cult and his need for the artifact. The setting is the temple, the Labyrinth, and the dry country around it. The book is a fantasy novel of confinement and naming, not a first-volume origin of Ged.
