The Templars

Rise and Fall of God's Holy Warriors

By Dan Jones · 2003

Back to Catalogue
Synopsis

This history follows the Order of the Temple from its founding in Jerusalem after the First Crusade through its military and banking role in the Latin East and Europe to its suppression by Philip IV of France and the papacy. Jones tracks Grand Masters, crusading campaigns, castle garrisons, and the trials that ended the order in the early fourteenth century. Settings move among Outremer, the Iberian frontier, and the courts of Paris and Rome. The book is a narrative of one military-religious order, not a novel of individual knights and not a general history of all crusades.
