The Tale of Peter Rabbit
The Warne Archive Collection
By Beatrix Potter · 2022
Back to CatalogueFirst published in 1902, this children's tale follows young Peter Rabbit, who disobeys his mother and slips into Mr. McGregor's garden to eat lettuces and radishes. He loses his jacket and shoes, hides in a watering can, and barely escapes the gardener while his obedient sisters Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail stay on bread, milk, and blackberries. The setting is a kitchen garden and a rabbit hole under a fir. The book is a short illustrated cautionary story, not a natural-history lesson.
