First published in 1895, this companion volume to The Jungle Book gathers further Mowgli stories and separate animal tales. Mowgli, now older, deals with the wolves, the tiger's old feud, a pack challenge, and his movement between jungle law and the human village. Other pieces follow a white seal, a mongoose in an English bungalow, and animals of the Indian hills. Settings include the Seeonee forest, the Waingunga, and Himalayan country. The book is a story collection of jungle and animal life, not a continuous novel and not a naturalist's field report.
