The Scott's Last Expedition

The Personal Journals of Captain R.F. Scott, C.V.O., R.N. on His Journey to the South Pole

By Captain R.F. Scott · 1964

Back to Catalogue
Synopsis

These journals of Robert Falcon Scott record the Terra Nova expedition to Antarctica, from the coastal hut and depot-laying journeys to the polar march of 1911-12. Scott notes ice, weather, pony and dog transport, and the scientific programme, then the arrival at the South Pole to find Roald Amundsen's tent already there, and the weakening return in which the party dies on the Ross Ice Shelf. Companions such as Wilson, Bowers, Oates, and Evans appear in daily entries. First issued in 1913, the book is an expedition diary, not a biography written by another hand.
