The Ripley Novels

By Patricia Highsmith · 2011

Back to Catalogue
Synopsis

This sequence, beginning in 1955, follows Tom Ripley, an American drifter who murders, impersonates, and then settles into a comfortable life in France, marrying into money while remaining open to blackmail and new killings. Across the books he moves between New York, Italy, and the village of Villeperce, dealing with art forgery, a reluctant hired killing, a young admirer, and later attempts to expose him. Dickie Greenleaf, the wealthy circle of the first crime, and Ripley's wife Heloise recur as pressures on his invented self. The set is a crime series about a polite murderer, not a single closed case.
