Journals of Lewis and Clark

By Lewis, Clark · 2000

Back to Catalogue
Synopsis

This is an abridged reading of the journals kept by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark on the 1804-1806 Corps of Discovery expedition from the Mississippi to the Pacific and back. Daily entries record the ascent of the Missouri, winter among the Mandan, the crossing of the Rockies with Shoshone help, the descent to the Columbia, the winter at Fort Clatsop, and the return. They note plants, animals, rivers, and meetings with Native nations, along with discipline, hunger, and Jefferson's instructions. The book is a primary exploration narrative, not a later biography of the two captains.
