This collection brings together Fielding's principal novels of the 1740s and 1751: the foundling Tom Jones on the road from Somerset to London; Joseph Andrews and Parson Adams in a comic inversion of Richardson's Pamela; the criminal greatness of Jonathan Wild; and Amelia, in which a devoted wife endures a reckless husband, sponging friends, and the traps of London law. Across the four, narrators interrupt to discuss moral character, inn and highway life, and true versus false greatness. The set is a group of comic and satirical novels of Georgian England, not a volume of Fielding's plays.
