This selection from Leonardo da Vinci's notebooks, written from the late fifteenth century into the early sixteenth, groups his notes and drawings by subject: painting and the eye, the anatomy of man and horse, water, flight, machines, architecture, and reflections on science and the artist. Mirror writing, lists, and sketches sit together. The edition includes material from the Madrid Codices as well as the better-known Paris and Windsor papers. The book is a thematic compilation of one artist's working notes, not a continuous autobiography and not a modern life of Leonardo.
