The Norse Myths

By An Anthology · 1989

Back to Catalogue
Synopsis

This collection retells the principal stories of the Norse gods and the beings around them, drawing on the Poetic Edda and Snorri Sturluson's prose. Typical pieces cover the making of the world from the giant Ymir, the deeds and quarrels of Odin, Thor, Freyja, and Loki, the building of Asgard, the loss of Idun's apples, Thor's journeys among giants, the death of Baldr, and the last battle of Ragnarok. The tone is narrative rather than a verse-for-verse edition of the medieval texts. The book is a mythological anthology, not a history of the Viking Age.
