Synopsis

This volume collects three short novels set in New York. In the first, a writer of detective stories takes on a surveillance job and loses himself in the wanderings of his quarry. In the second, a man called Blue is hired to watch a man called Black, and the watching becomes the whole plot. In the third, a writer searches for a missing childhood friend who may have become a recluse assembling a new book of the world. Doubles, names, and city streets bind the three. The book is a set of metafictional detective stories, not a police chronicle of New York.
