The Myceneans and the Decipherment of Linear B

By Lord William Taylour, John Chadwick · 2004

Back to Catalogue
Synopsis

This volume joins two studies of Late Bronze Age Greece. Lord William Taylour surveys Mycenaean citadels, tombs, pottery, weapons, and trade at sites such as Mycenae, Tiryns, and Pylos, and the collapse of the palace system. John Chadwick recounts how Linear B tablets from Knossos and Pylos were shown to record an early form of Greek, and what the lists of rations, offerings, and officials reveal about palace economy. The book is an archaeological and philological account of Mycenaean civilization, not a retelling of the Trojan War.
