The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat

By Oliver W. Sacks · 2011

Back to Catalogue
Synopsis

This is a set of clinical narratives about patients whose neurological injuries and disorders alter memory, perception, speech, or the sense of the body. Sacks describes a musician who cannot recognize faces or everyday objects, people who lose a sense of their own limbs, patients with prodigious memory or lost memory, and others living with Tourette's, aphasia, or an excess of inner music. Each piece pairs the case with a reflection on what remains of the person. The book is a collection of neurological essays, not a single biography and not a technical textbook.
