The Man in the High Castle

By Philip K. Dick · 2015

Synopsis

First published in 1962, this novel imagines the United States divided after an Axis victory in the Second World War: Japan controls the Pacific states, Germany the East, and a buffer zone lies between. In San Francisco, the jeweler Robert Childan, the craftsman Frank Frink, and the judo instructor Juliana Frink move among occupiers, forgers of antiques, and a banned novel that imagines the Allies won. The I Ching is used as a guide to action. The book is an alternate-history novel about everyday life under occupation, not a battlefield chronicle.
