This edition presents the surviving correspondence of Arthur Plantagenet, Viscount Lisle, illegitimate son of Edward IV and Henry VIII's Deputy at Calais, covering roughly 1533 to 1540. Letters among Lisle, his wife Honor, their agents, and court contacts deal with offices, wardships, food, cloth, news of Anne Boleyn and Cromwell, and the provisioning of the Pale. The sequence ends with Lisle's arrest and the fall of his household. The book is a documentary portrait of one Tudor official family, not a general history of the reign.
