Compiled in the eighth century and surviving mainly in Ibn Hisham's recension, this Arabic biography of Muhammad follows his genealogy, the Meccan years of revelation and opposition, the Hijra to Medina, and the raids and battles that established the community, including Badr, Uhud, and the taking of Mecca. Speeches, poems, lists of names, and reports of companions sit beside the narrative of treaties and households. The work ends with the Farewell Pilgrimage and the Prophet's death. It is a foundational sira, not a later theological treatise and not a modern critical history.
