This edition presents Edward John Trelawny's Recollections of the Last Days of Shelley and Byron, first published in 1858, with extra passages from other witnesses. Trelawny joins the Pisan circle in 1821, records Shelley's household and boat-building, the drowning off Viareggio, and the funeral pyre on the shore, then follows Byron to Greece and the last months at Missolonghi. The narrative is a companion's memoir of two poets in exile, heavy with talk, quarrels, and practical detail. The volume is documentary reminiscence, not a critical study of the poems.
