This volume collects the poetical works of Geoffrey Chaucer, written in the late fourteenth century: the Canterbury Tales, in which pilgrims riding to Becket's shrine tell stories of marriage, miracle, trickery, and sermon; the romance Troilus and Criseyde; the dream-visions; and shorter lyrics. The language is Middle English. The tales move among London, the road to Canterbury, Troy, and allegorical gardens. The book is Chaucer's collected poetry, not a modern novelization, not a single tale, and not a life of the poet.
