Synopsis
First published in 1925, this novel is set in the Dublin underworld after the Irish Civil War. Gypo Nolan, a large unemployed ex-revolutionary, betrays his former comrade Frankie McPhillip to the authorities for a reward, then drinks and boasts through a night of fog while an organization hunts the informer. Frankie's sister and Gypo's companion Katie move through the same rooms and streets. The book is a short psychological novel of guilt and pursuit, not a history of the Rising or the Treaty.
