The Hundred and One Dalmatians
Or the Great Dog Robbery
By Dodie Smith · 2017
Back to CatalogueFirst published in 1956, this children's novel follows the Dalmatians Pongo and Missis, who live in London with the Dearlys and their first litter, after Cruella de Vil decides she wants a spotted fur coat and has the puppies stolen. The dogs of England pass news by the twilight barking. Pongo and Missis cross the winter countryside to a Suffolk country house where dozens of other stolen pups are held, then try to bring the whole pack home through snow and pursuit. The book is a comic animal adventure about a theft and a rescue, not a natural-history study of dogs.
