The Hound of the Baskervilles
Lino-Cuts
By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle · 2006
Back to CatalogueFirst published in 1902, this Sherlock Holmes novel opens in Baker Street when Dr James Mortimer brings a manuscript about a spectral hound that has hunted the Baskerville family on Dartmoor, and news that Sir Charles Baskerville has died near his hall with a huge paw-print nearby. Holmes sends Dr Watson to Baskerville Hall with the young heir, Sir Henry, while a convict, a naturalist, and neighbors on the moor complicate the watch. Holmes works from London, then on the ground, to test whether the legend covers a human crime. The book is a detective novel of inheritance and fraud, not a supernatural tale.
