The History of the Church
The History of the Church, from Christ to Constantine, Revised
By Eusebius · 2011
Back to CatalogueComposed in the early fourth century, this ecclesiastical history traces the Christian churches from the apostolic age to Constantine. Eusebius of Caesarea records successions of bishops, the careers of teachers and heretics, persecutions under Roman emperors, martyrdoms, and the debates that defined doctrine, quoting letters and earlier writers at length. The last books turn to the Great Persecution and to Constantine's patronage. Palestine, Egypt, Rome, and Asia Minor are the main theatres. The work is a documentary chronicle of the church as an institution, not a gospel and not a later medieval legendarium.
