The Great Gatsby & the Last Tycoon

An Unfinished Novel

By F. Scott Fitzgerald · 2005

Back to Catalogue
Synopsis

This volume pairs two novels. The Great Gatsby, first published in 1925, is narrated by Nick Carraway, who watches the mysterious Jay Gatsby give parties on Long Island while pursuing Daisy Buchanan across the divide of old money and bootleg wealth. The Last Tycoon, left unfinished at the author's death and first issued in 1941, follows Monroe Stahr, a young Hollywood production chief, through studio politics, a new attachment, and a struggle with his partner as the industry and his health falter. The book is two separate fictions of American aspiration, not a single continuous story.
