This fantasy trilogy follows FitzChivalry Farseer, bastard son of a prince, raised at Buckkeep on the Six Duchies coast and trained as an assassin by the king's man Chade. Fitz possesses the Skill, a royal telepathy, and the Wit, a despised bond with animals, notably the wolf Nighteyes. He serves King Shrewd and Prince Verity as Red-Ship raiders from the Out Islands ravage coastal towns and leave Forged victims without feeling. Court intrigue around Prince Regal, a doomed royal marriage, and a quest beyond the Mountain Kingdom drive the three novels. The work is a court and war saga told in Fitz's voice, not a standalone quest book.
