This set gathers four of Charles Darwin's principal books: the narrative of the Beagle voyage, On the Origin of Species, The Descent of Man, and The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals. Together they move from field observation of islands, fossils, and domestic variation to natural selection, human descent and sexual selection, and the continuity of expression between animals and people. The volumes are Darwin's own scientific arguments and travel record from the mid-nineteenth century, not a biography and not a modern textbook of genetics.
