Synopsis
First published in 1939, this children's novel follows Jo, Bessie, and Fanny, who move to a house at the edge of a wood and discover the Magic Faraway Tree, inhabited by pixies, a saucepot, and other creatures, with different lands that come to rest at its top. The children climb with their friend Moon-Face, visit those changing lands, and must get home before a land moves on. Dame Washalot, Mr Watzisname, and Silky recur as helpers or hazards. The book is a serial adventure of visits up the tree, not a school story.
