Synopsis
First published in 1928, this horror novella is assembled from a manuscript left by Francis Wayland Thurston. He pieces together his grand-uncle's notes on a sculpted bas-relief, a New Orleans police raid on a swamp cult, and the journal of a Norwegian sailor whose crew met something in the Pacific. The fragments point to Cthulhu, a being that waits in a sunken city, and to a cult that expects its return. The story is a documentary collage of dread, not a hunt narrative with a resolved ending.
