The Book of Dust

This companion trilogy to His Dark Materials returns to Lyra's Oxford and the struggle over Dust, the mysterious particle tied to consciousness. The first volume follows innkeeper's son Malcolm Polstead as he protects the infant Lyra during a great flood and a chase by agents of the Magisterium. Later volumes pick up Lyra as a young woman travelling into a divided Europe and Central Asia, with the alethiometer, daemons, and the politics of a theocratic Church still in force. The work is a sequence of quest novels across linked worlds, not a retelling of the earlier trilogy.
