This science-fiction sequence follows Binti, a sixteen-year-old Himba mathematician from Earth and the first of her people to accept a place at Oomza University. On the voyage her ship is attacked by the jellyfish-like Meduse; she survives by using her ancestral otjize, her talent for treeing mathematical current, and an object that lets her speak across species. Later volumes send her home to the Namib and back into a conflict that implicates her family, the Khoush, and the Meduse, while her own body and loyalties keep changing. The three novellas form one coming-of-age story across cultures, not a space-opera war chronicle.
