The Bible Designed to Be Read as Literature
Volume II
By No Author · 1970
Back to CatalogueFirst arranged in 1936 by Ernest Sutherland Bates, this edition reprints the King James wording but strips chapter-and-verse numbering, drops many genealogies and repeated ritual lists, and sets narrative, poetry, and prophecy as continuous literary units. Historical books read as stories; the Psalms and the prophets appear as verse; the gospels and Acts run as consecutive narrative. The aim is to let a reader meet the text as books rather than as a citation tool. The volume is a re-presentation of the English Bible's contents, not a new translation and not a commentary that explains doctrine passage by passage.
